I am of the opinion that the tiger had non sloping armor simply because they assumed it would fight at a stand off range and that most incoming rounds would be plunging fire, which would in effect make the face piece some slight degree of slope. I don't think it was ever meant to be a purely offensive weapon and it should also be noted that from the air, if a tanks armor slopes too much it becomes flat on to fire. So, if they didn't need it to slope, then why do it. It was an intelligent design, not an error.

"The Sherman was no match for the T-34." What a damn lie! You know this was a lie because the Sherman was wildly popular with Russian crews. You know this because literally all of the Guards tank corps (the best, veteran tank formations) that could possibly be equipped with American Sherman tanks were. As the Russians pushed into Poland and Hungary - American Shermans with Russian crews literally led the way. A few reasons why the Sherman was vastly superior to the T-34: the T-34 was not a reliable tank. Russian commanders would loose significant percentages of machines just moving up to their start points before a battle even began (as high as 35% of all T-34's would encounter significant mechanical issues requiring replacement of parts or technical expertise the crews themselves could not provide). As the German's found with the Tigers - if you can't get the best tank in the world to the actual battle itself, then all of it's other qualities don't matter. The T-34 was uncomfortable, didn't have a dedicated radio and had no turret stabilizer. The Sherman's, especially the "easy 8" had these things in spades and this allowed the crews to be vastly more effective in combat. The T--34 was also a death trap whereas the Sherman had purpose-built features to protect the crew when the tank was hit by anti-tank shells. A Sherman's ammunition was kept in a fire-proof housing to prevent it from "cooking off" in a fire. The Sherman had a casted Steel housing that didn't result in spalling when hit like the T-34. I can literally go on and on about the forging processes of the steel, engineering of the vehicle and the manufacturing practices that resulted in vastly different vehicles. The T-34 was lost in huge numbers on the Eastern front and it really amounted to a big target that the Russians would drive right at the Germans to attract fire away from their infantry. Tank Crew losses were so bad in the last year of the war that the Russians were left with relatively few veterans once hostilities in Europe ended. The Russians are an excellent example in how not to fight a war and they have always been this way. I only need to point to the debacle in Ukraine at literally any period of time of that conflict and the Russians are doing the stupidest things possible in order to get more of their men to die at the front. We are literally talking about the same God Damn people who would equip half of their infantry with weapons and the other half with 5 rounds of ammunition and then shoot all those who attempted to retreat when their assaults fell apart in Stalingrad. The Russians were probably responsible for killing more of their own young men than the Germans were in that battle. This is how communists treat their soldiers during a war and this is exactly why communism is a crime against humanity itself.
